Islam and liberalism. Compatible or incompatible?

Assalamualaikum dear readers!
In light of the recent news that France has passed a bill which lists abortion as a human right, I figured I’d write a peace discussing the compatibility, or lack there of, between islam and modern day liberalism, or wokeism.
Introduction:
Over the past years, many liberals, in an attempt to highlight their inclusivity, have spun this narative that the right wing christians are evil, bigoted and hateful, while the muslims are on their side. This causes many modern day liberals to not consider the possibility that islam and christianity have more in common that any of them might think, especially in the matters of liberal and conservative dispute. Despite the fact that many liberals could simply pick up a quran and get exposed to a lot of the same teachings they’d flip out on the bible for, many of them either don’t do it because they opperate under the assumption that islam and christianity are seperat in matters such as these, or they don’t care because having muslims on their side adds more truth to the narative that liberalism teaches inclusivity to all people when that couldn’t be further from the truth. Many modern day liberals who have studied the islamic teachings have made several attempts to reconcile them with the values of modern day liberalism, with no success.
Today, we will be examining the teachings of islam and the values of modern day liberalism, to see for ourselves whether they are compatible or not.
Values under scrutiny:
Before we get into actually analyzing these values, we must first give a list of values we will be analyzing and what they mean in the liberal world.
1. Feminism.
In the liberal world, feminism simply means women’s rights and equality. Equal pay, equal everything. It also means a burning hatred for the patriarchy, the system that states that men are the workers and breadwinners of the family while the job of the women is to look out for the house and any children.
2. Abortion.
Abortion from a medical standpoint is defined as a surgery which terminates a pregnancy while it is still in progress. Abortion as defined by its biggest advocates is the right of the woman to choose what is best for her body, including having the right to terminate a pregnancy if she wishes.
3. Homosexuality and transgenderism.
I decided to group these together since they are somewhat related. In the liberal world, everyone is free to be with who they want to be with, identify as what they want to identify as, and love who they want to love without restriction.
4. Total acceptance.
Simply put, the idea of total acceptance states that we should accept all people regardless of their race, religion, gender or sexual relation, or any other criteria anyone can come up with. Its quite commonly known that liberals don’t adhere to those views themselves, despite their constant preachie tone as they try to force them down other’s throats. Their jumping quickly to reject and demonize anyone who doesn’t agree with their flawed doctrine proves this more than adequately.
5. Questioning information, feelings over facts.
The idea of feelings over facts is simple. One’s feelings take president over logic, reasoning, and factual information. All information that is in line with their worldview is accepted without question.
Now we know what values we’ll be analyzing today, let’s get into the first value.
Feminism:
Sure enough, islam has lots to say about feminism. The ideal islamic family structure adheres to the patriarchy perfectly.
Quran 4:34, Men are the protectors and maintainers of women, as Allah has given some of them an advantage over others, and because they spend out of their wealth. The good women are obedient, guarding what Allah would have them guard.
Doesn’t this seem in contradiction with modern day feminism? Any liberal female apologist in hearing this would instantly throw a fit claiming she doesn’t need any man to protect her. But there’s more!
Bukhari :: Book 9 :: Volume 89 :: Hadith 252:
Narrated ‘Abdullah bin ‘Umar:
Allah’s Apostle said, "Surely! Everyone of you is a guardian and is responsible for his charges: The Imam (ruler) of the people is a guardian and is responsible for his subjects; a man is the guardian of his family (household) and is responsible for his subjects; a woman is the guardian of her husband’s home and of his children.
Islam is clear on this issue. The job of the man is to be a guardian over the woman, and the job of the woman is to be the guardian of the house, and of the children.
Islam also teaches that women are not equal.
Quran 4:11, Allah instructs you regarding your children: The male receives the equivalent of the share of two females. If they are daughters, more than two, they get two-thirds of what he leaves. If there is only one, she gets one-half. As for the parents, each gets one-sixth of what he leaves, if he had children. If he had no children, and his parents inherit from him, his mother gets one-third. If he has siblings, his mother gets one-sixth. After fulfilling any bequest and paying off debts. Your parents and your children—you do not know which are closer to you in welfare. This is Allah’s Law. Allah is Knowing and Judicious.
For context, this refers to the issue of inheritance. At first site, one may wonder why islam commands this unfare splitting of inheritance. However, it is important to note that the male is responsible for paying off all familial matters later in his life, including the parents of the woman he chooses to marry, their children, plus the expenses of his wife. So, being that we are already familiar with the islamic family structure, it makes perfect sense why the man would receive more than the woman. However, this won’t stop a liberal from throwing a fit as soon as he or she is exposed to this concept.
Abortion:
Islam has lots to say about abortion, though not directly. There are a few verses from the quran which demonstrate this, as well as a hadith.
Quran 17:31, And do not kill your children for fear of poverty. We provide for them, and for you. Killing them is a grave sin.
Poverty is one of the biggest excuses for abortion. Many times, women who get themselves involved in sexual relations, but don’t have the means to take care of the child they created result to this excuse. However, Allah almighty refutes this excuse with one single statement, we provide for them and for you.
Quran 60:12, O prophet! If believing women come to you, pledging allegiance to you, on condition that they will not associate anything with Allah, nor steal, nor commit adultery, nor kill their children, nor commit perjury as to parenthood, nor disobey you in anything righteous, accept their allegiance and ask Allah’s forgiveness for them. Allah is Forgiving and Merciful.
Note that this verse speaks of women rather than believers. This strengthens the case that the quran, though speaking to the people during its time, is also conveying a message to us in this generation, that abortion is wrong and never to do it.
Sunan Abi Dawud 4442:
) Buraidah said:
A woman of Ghamid came to the Prophet (ﷺ) and said: I have committed fornication. He said: Go back. She returned, and on the next day she came to him again, and said: Perhaps you want to send me back as you did to Ma’iz b. Malik. I swear by Allah, I am pregnant. He said to her: Go back. She then returned and came to him the next day. He said to her: Go back until you give birth to a child. She then returned. When she gave birth to a child, she brought the child to him, and said: Here it is! I have given birth to it. He said: Go back, and suckle him until you wean him.
If the prophet really assumed the view of the liberals that the human fetus is alive at birth and not before then, why would he allow the woman to wait until she gave birth to punish her? its clear that the prophet, peace be upon him, cared for the baby within her, and as muslims, we are required to follow his example.
Homosexuality and transgenderism:
The quran in many instances talks about homosexuality. However, my argument will come from a section of the quran and 2 hadiths.
Quran 7:80-84.
80. And Lot, when he said to his people, “Do you commit lewdness no people anywhere have ever committed before you?”
Its important to note the word used there, the same word found in quran chapter 1 verse 1 which states, all praise to Allah, the lord of the worlds. The word refers to all reality, all imagination, all possible realities and universes, highlighting the gravity of the sin committed.
81. “You lust after men rather than women. You are an excessive people.”
82. And his people’s only answer was to say, “Expel them from your town; they are purist people.”
83. But We saved him and his family, except for his wife; she was of those who lagged behind.
84. And We rained down on them a rain; note the consequences for the sinners.
Its important to note the word used for sinners as well. The word can mean wrongdoers, criminals, sinners, and more, once again showing how people who partake in homosexual acts fit into each and every meaning of the word.
For those who claim that this command was only for the people of the prophet lot and it does not apply to people at this time, I got just the right hadith for you.
Sunan Abu Dawud 38:444:7:
Narated By Abdullah ibn Abbas :
The Prophet (peace be upon him) said: If you find anyone doing as Lot’s people did, kill the one who does it, and the one to whom it is done.
Transgenderism:
Sahih Bukhari 7:72:774:
Narrated Ibn ‘Abbas:
The Prophet cursed effeminate men; those men who are in the similitude (assume the manners of women) and those women who assume the manners of men, and he said, "Turn them out of your houses." The Prophet turned out such-and-such man, and ‘Umar turned out such-and-such woman.
This describes transgenderism perfectly, as this is what transgender people do.
Total acceptance:
This one is one of the easiest to crumble. Considering what I already showed, I don’t have to show more. We already know that Allah doesn’t accept the common liberal practices done today, so total acceptance has already been shatttered. However, there is yet another layer of depth we must explore.
Most religions, at least the abrahamic ones, have a concept known as the afterlife. The idea of afterlife, though articulated differently in the different religions, states that a select few people will be allowed into an objectively good place for their actions, faith or belief, and others will end up in an objectively bad place to face punishment for their crimes on this earth. If islam has one of these concepts, it directly spits in the face of total acceptance as a modern idea. Well, does it?
Quran 4:56, Those who reject Our revelations—We will scorch them in a Fire. Every time their skins are cooked, We will replace them with other skins, so they will experience the suffering. Allah is Most Powerful, Most Wise.
A dios, total acceptance!
Feelings over facts:
Another easy one. if the quran tells us to question information, no matter where it came from, it contradicts with feelings over facts.
Quran 49:6, O you who believe! If a troublemaker brings you any news, investigate, lest you harm people out of ignorance, and you become regretful for what you have done.
Simple. If someone comes to you with information, even if you are inclined to believe it, even if you feel it is not valid, verify it anyway, before you harm yourself and others out of pure ignorance.
Conclusion:
Its fairly obvious what our verdect is. Because of these islamic teachings, and many many more, we can tell that islam spits in the face of liberalism and everything it stands for. All of its nonsensical, flawed and ridiculous views completely contradict everything islam teaches us about life, humans, and god’s commands.
As muslims, we should speak up against this silly notion that liberals ar our friends, that liberal values are not in contradiction with islam and that islam will bend over backward to please those who only use us to feed their narative that they don’t even follow themselves.
Quran 3:175, It is Satan who urges you to fear his followers. Do not fear them, but fear Me, if you are true believers.

Are you ever going to write a piece specifically about muslims who think they have to harmonize Islam with modern secular values to win converts, popularity, etc? I find it’s a pretty big issue in Christianity and I’d like to see your thoughts on muslims who do this.

Sure. Tell me what other values weren’t addressed and I’ll make another peace addressing them.
